Highway Code Stopping Distances

Do you know these by heart?

Do you know how this knowledge should inform your driving?

Learners need to remember these figures for the test, but all drivers need to remember that they need  space and time to react. Keeping your distance from the car in front, especially on the motorways and dual carriageways, is vital to allow you space and time to react and slow down without hitting the hazard.

These figures include reaction and braking times to give the overall stopping distance.

At 70mph  it takes almost the length of a football pitch to stop completely.
