How to Avoid Car Theft

Car theft is a major concern to all motorists. It is especially relevant to young drivers as they can often only afford to buy older, cheaper models and unfortunately older cars are easier to steal.

The good news is that car theft is going down - figures show a decrease of 31% between 2003 and 2005. But there is plenty you can do to deter a thief.

The first thing to do is buy a car which is hard to steal

Overall the number of cars stolen in England, Wales and Scotland dropped substantially in 2005 over the 2004 figures. The report indicates that 38,394 fewer vehicles were stolen in 2005 than in 2004, a drop of 16%.
Part of the reason for this appears to be improved anti-theft technology in newer models.

In fact, statistics indicate that newer cars are much less likely to be stolen than older cars.
